I am a newbie to MythTV and Linux though I have been working on
computers for many years.

I am trying to put together a MythTV system. So far, I have:

o Rackmount ATX case
o ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo
o AMD Athlon 64 3200+ boxed
o 420 watt power supply
o 2 512 KB sticks of memory
o GeForce 6800 OC
o 2 200+ GB hard drives (salvaged from another machine)
o Sony DVD-ROM (also salvaged)
o pcHDTV HD-2000 (Why does lspci show it as a Conexant TV2000?)

On this I have installed Fedora Core 3 (x86_64 version) from a
downloaded-and-burned DVD. I selected most of the "task" options,
then updated it with up2date till the "updates available" ball
turned from a red ! to a blue checkmark.

Then I found Jarod's post about the FC3 howto and I started in on
that. The section 5 rpm command failed because it was not the 64 bit
version, so I went to the web site listed and installed the x86_64
version.

At this point thing started to go wrong, and I think I may have made
them worse trying to fix it. I got an error saying that
libraw1394.so.5 was needed. Based on the messages I got I tried lots
of things including the -f option and apt-getting the libraw1394
package, and replying "Yes, do as I say!".

I never made it past the

    # apt-get install apt yum modutils

line without failing. Could someone help me get back on track? Do I
need to start over or is there a way to clean this up? Yahoo searches
on libraw1394 seem to indicate that it has had 64 bit code in it
since 2000. -Chuck-
