[mythtv-users] To TiVo or mythTV it

Update: A few weeks after deciding to MythTV it.

I just received the HD-3000 card this last weekend and started eating
Turkey in one hand and hammering on FC3 with a drum stick bone.

The time waiting for the HD-3000 to arrive turned out to be all right as I
needed to build two FC3 boxes and deal with all the issues that came with
that. NVIDIA, Audigy, yum but not that yum, selinux, udev, and some other
things.

Putting the HD-3000 in I went to work. After compiling the cx88 drivers
all looked good. Using the tool dtvscan I really did not know what was
good and what was bad output. It scrolled through 2-70 channels and
exited. Humm? Using dtvsignal I did not get any "$" on channel 2,7, and
the all ever important 77 (SpeedTV) channel.

Reading pcHDTV.com FAQ http://www.pchdtv.com/faq.php#faq0000014 did not
make me so exited. My cable provider is Comcast. I can hook up directly
to the TV and get signal or go though the Motorola cable box and hook up
that way. The settings on the cable box indicate NTSC.

Doing tons of searches I have come to the point that the HD-3000 is not
for me but maybe in a 100 years when SpeedTV broadcasts in HDTV locally
and the neighborhood covenants allows for an antenna. 2020 maybe?

A PVR-350 is on order. In the meantime research to understand all the
different broadcast CN definitions better and getting hopefully a better
display using the SVIDEO out on the NVIDIA card will be worked on. The
current NVIDIA TV out display boarders are annoying along with the slight
flickering and the display being shifted to the lower left too much.

And so learning Linux PVR continues....

Cheers!
