[mythtv-users] Raid question for myth box

Hello,

This is more of a Linux question, but I am asking here because it is related
to my myth-box, and you folks are very knowledgable.

I have my Motherboard decision narrowed down to 2 boards. One has the 925
chipset with the ICH6R southbridge (RAID), while the other has a 915G chipset
with ICH6 southbridge (no RAID). These 2 motherboards are otherwise
equivelent performance wise (same speed FSB, same speed to the PCI/PCIe and
SATA, etc.) So, is there any advantage to paying the extra $$$ for the ICH6R
chipset if I wish to do RAID under Linux? (My understanding is that the ICH6R
isn't 'true' raid, but 'fakeRaid').

Looking at the archives, for example:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/58154?search_string=raid;#58154

It appears to me that setting up RAID using Linux will give me all that I
need (redundancy, speed), without the ICH6R chip. Am I understanding this
correctly?

Thanks for helping out this linux n00b.
