I have ice1712 (envy24).  I get the same results with 1.0.5a and 1.0.7 
.  Here's how I tested.

1.    rebuild kernel w/o ALSA
2.    build new alsa version
3.    rebuild mythtv
4.    reboot
5.    test

I feel like I might be missing something simple, like could the Mixer 
Device name be something besides "default"?
