I have a Celery 2.4 and a 48x CD-ROM and it takes about 12 minutes to 
rip a 12 track CD to flac with medium compression.

I've ripped more than 2,000 CDs, and it usually takes about that to rip

each CD.

35 minutes is definitely excessive.
