It seems that the nvidia-glx module cannot compile against xfree (the error claims that nvidia will no longer be supporting xfree), and the error message recommeded that I transition to Xorg. So, I did just that. That's where my troubles began…

However, when I attempted to *watch TV*, the front-end crashed and I was left with my mostly empty desktop. On a guess (I had had XvMC problems before), I decided to disable XvMC and restart. This worked fine. But, currently, XvMC with bob gives me by far the best picture, so I NEED it.

So, the real question is, is anyone out there having success with XvMC (nvidia) and Xorg? Any ideas what might have gone wrong? Any specific advice on the order of rebuilding (xorg…then nvidia-kernel…then mythtv)? Maybe something I missed when changing to Xorg?

I've been having no problem w/ the following setup. I normally keep XvMC
off because the osd stutters so with it, but have the same issue you
report where mythfrontend immediately exits as soon as I hit WatchTV. I
know that with nvidia 6111, I could watch live tv with XvMC enabled.
That would seem to leave the issue in the new nvidia driver and perhaps
confirms it's not unique to your setup. Good luck.
