[mythtv-users] Sound not working

I was fine with most of my MythTV functionality (schedule, record,
watch TV, etc.) up until last night. My backend crashed and
completely froze up the machine. I'll deal with that later, but I had
to unplug the machine to get it to power down. When I brought it
back up, ran fsck and no problems were found. However, now on
boot, I get the following message:
Start Service mdmonitor: MTDLogger.o: Problem opening logfile.
Does this look openable to you: /var/lib/mythdvd/temp/mtd.log
The file is not present in that directory, and all paths up to that
location are at least 755.
Oddly enough now I get no sound when trying to watch TV or
any recordings. I get this nice little message saying "/dev/dsp is
not available, do I want to continue without sound?" If I
try aplay <known-good-mp3> from the command line, all I get
is static.
I've rebooted a few times with the exact same result. Is there
some switch I can turn on for more debug info? I've done a
ps -ef|grep 'dsp' and get no hits, so it doesn't look like
anything is actually using /dev/dsp.
Thanks for any help,
Paul
