Up until the very recent releases (as in, the FC3 test stuff), yum has been
pitifully slow compared to apt when it comes to obtaining package metadata
and resolving dependencies, because every package had its own metadata .hdr
file, opposed to a single repo-wide metadata file like apt has always done,
which yum has finally adopted. One header file per rpm was easier on the repo
maintainer, but crappy for the user. I'll have to play with the new yum some
more... apt is also rather nice for those who move back and forth between
RH/FC and Debian.
