Thanks to all those that helped, but seeing the trouble I've been
having, I think I'm going to Punt...

I'm re-installing.

I have a slide mount for my system drive (/boot, swap, and "/"
partitions)  and a separate 160Gig internal for use as /video. So I just
slid the system drive out and set it on a shelf, grabbed another drive,
stuffed it in, and started from scratch.

(SHAMELESS PLUG: I just love slide mounts! I bought 10 of them at a
computer show and stuffed them in everything. I have one system with two
slide mounts for drive copying. When I get mythtv running I can back up
my system to another drive, tweak to my hearts content, totally trash
everything, and still get back to a working system in 2 minutes without
even opening my case :)

I started a re-install last night before going to bed. I got up to
chapter 10 of Jarod's guide "apt-get install mythtv-suite" and ran into
some problems. That'll be the start of another thread in a couple of
minutes :)
