Ah, but I understood that automount/supermount would interact badly with
the media dectection DVD/VCD/Audio.... And I really like the detection
feature.

That sounds good ;-) But storing this info must be optional. At the
moment I borrowed a friends collection of SG1 avi's. I'd like to watch
them, but I do not intent to keep them. So saving info is pretty useless.
It would be nice for my own private collections though. You can fetch the
CD-label stored with iso9660 as a way to identify the disk. [ I haven't
thought about removable hd's ].

A media handler that pulls in the contents of the disk (honoring the
configured filter settings) that lets you browse and play would be a nice
starting point I think. The next step could be to store the contents in
the database with a 'removeable-media-id'. The user should be explicitely
asked to store the info and should be able to modify the
'removeable-media-id'. This way you can have a JustPlayTheBloodyThing
interface and a posibility to archive and organize your personal video
collection.
