You do bring up an interesting point!! With this in mind it is still
possible to to make the shutdown script smart enough to take that into
account. However, the problem comes back to th backend. Once it says
"nothing to do, shutdown" but we don't actually shutdown, will the
backend continue operating normally (even though, it had issued the
shutdown command) and start recording the next program?

BTW, I don't expect you to have all the answers! :) I am just throwing
it out there for anyone else reading the thread.

I have been following the project for much longer then I have been on
the list (which, itself, is about a month, month-and-a-half) and
considering how many changes are going in, my tiny option is that
"incremental" releases, although unstable, would have been good.
However, I don't even pretend to know what is going on on the
development end.
