If you haven't already:

I'm using Xebian 1.0.2 with Dennis Cartiers mythtv-xbox 0.4.3
installer... On a stock Xbox/mechinstaller setup.
Lirc is already installed, unsure of version, but there is a good chance
it'll practically work, or at least have the needed modules out of the
box.

The MS remote worked out of the box, as did mythtv0.14.1.
YMMV.

The kernel is loaded from outside linux in a file via "emergency linux",
in c:\Linux (if using Mechinstaller) and a plain text file describes
what file to boot, root FS, etc.
(Seems pretty easy to work with)

Someone on the list could probably set you up with details: Mine just
works.
