[mythtv-users] Recomiling the Kernal

XFS specifically is mentioned in Jarod's guide, it's
towards the end in the miscellaneous section (I use
Fedora Core 1, with XFS myself). Shouldn't be a
problem at all if you use the ATrpms kernel.

My experience with RedHat/Fedora (and even SuSE and
Mandrake) is that kernel compilation is a major pain
in the butt. They all patch their kernels so much,
that applying a stock kernel sometimes actually breaks
things. And, if you use a patched kernel, then you
sometimes can't use RPM modules made by other people.

Case in point: I wanted to use an 802.11g card
supported by the prism54 drivers. My choices are
either:
1. Use the ATrpms kernel, which won't work with the
prism54 modules (either as source code, or with a
pre-built module by somebody else)
2. Use the stock kernel, which should work with the
prism54 module - then I lose some of the features that
the ATrpms kernel have
3. Try to do it all from source, adding a crapload of
patches in. More pain than it's worth.

So, for now, I'm waiting until Fedora Core 2 comes
out, then hopefully there will be an RPM repository
for it, so that I can have all of the goodies in one
kernel. :)
