I have it working with cox and a linux box. It requires some hacking to get
it working with your cable box usually but ddr1394, libavc1394 and
libraw1394 are the components required. I can post a mini how to if anybody
else is interested.
This WOULD be the greatest thing since slice bread but most channels (all
but NBC on cox) are encrypted with 5C. Till somebody hacks 5C it's
completely useless if it's encoded with it.

It seems that the FCC continues to "Fight for the Consumer" (editors note:
when they aren't too busy harrassing Stern or relaxing media conglomerate
restrictions)and this time they make it easier to get HDTV from your cable
box. In a blog
<http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/fcc-requires-firewire-on-all-cable-boxes-01
5708.php> from Gizmodo <http://www.gizmodo.com/> . It seems that cable
companies are being forced by the FCC to add a firewire port to every cable
box for every consumer that wants it (starting April 1st).
