Just thought I'd mention...

Today I removed the Envy24HT sound card from my system and re-configured ALSA  
to use the on-board sound chip, just to follow up on this discussion from yesterday 
and to be able to give Paul Williamson at least one definitive answer to his questions.

The on board sound worked a treat! In fact, I don't think I'll be putting the sound card 
back into this machine.

The motherboard is the MSI K7N2-Delta that I mentioned yesterday with an nForce2 
chipset. Used the Intel8x0 configuration and it was very straight-forward. No 
surprises at all.
