I recently installed mythtv on a suse 8.2 system running the 2.6.2 kernel
and kde 3.2.1. Everything appeared to install correctly. Configuring the
database and the backend server again appeared to go correctly and
mythfilldatabase populated the database with all of the correct channels.
When I start mythbackend I get the following dialog:

Voyager:/usr/local/mythtv-0.14/setup # mythbackend
Starting up as the master server.
2004-03-25 06:59:20 mythbackend version: 0.14.20040123-1 www.mythtv.org
2004-03-25 06:59:20 Enabled verbose msgs : important general
QServerSocket: failed to bind or listen to the socket
Failed to bind port: 6543
Voyager:/usr/local/mythtv-0.14/setup # mc

I have tried using both localhost (127.0.0.1) as well as the machines fixed
ip but get the above message regardless. After starting the backend I
check and both the backend and mysql are running. When I start up the
front end and try to watch tv I am unable to access any of my tv channels
except one, the channel that the tv is supposed to start on in the setup
file.

Does anyone have an idea why I cannot bind to the port? I do have a
firewall running but have opended up 6543 in the firewall. Any help will
be appreciated.

Dave
