Actually, from what I've read from people looking at the archives, their
files conveniently left out the text of the GPL from their source code,
which *is* a violation.

Other than this (if this is indeed the case, and it'd be easy for them
to fix), it's unfriendly to the project to not provide a direct link to
the source (but include it "hidden" inside of their binary ISO) or much
attribution, but it's not a violation of the GPL.  Their code is
available, and according to the GPL, we're welcome to use it (their
auto-update code might be cool to look at, although it may not do us
much good due to the different package managers used by each
distribution).
