<disclaimer> This is just my personal experience, your milage may vary.

1. KnoppixMyth is the easiest to install but I had problems keeping it going
and the upgrade path may be difficult as a fair amount support has been
stripped out. It is also optimized for a pentioum pro processor so you may
have issues there. Unless you have some debian background I cannot recomend
it.

2. I would recomend fedora core over redhat 9 as there is a great support
group. There is also a excellent howto page at http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/
that will walk you thru the process of getting myth up and running. The
ability to use apt-get to install stuff makes life much easier :)

The space you would save is likely to be less than 15 minutes of video :)
