[mythtv-users] SPDIF Soundcard Recommendations

Is the 7.1 version compatible with Linux though? I see they use different
audio processors (C-Media versus a VIA chip). From everything I have read
(which I admit isn't much), the AV-710 is not supported in Linux. If it was,
I think I would pick that model up just because the optical SPDIF is built
onto the card (no addon header required). If anyone has any information
about this card, please let me know. I have been contemplating using it
instead of my Sound Blaster Live!

Or you can do what I did: buy a Chaintech AV515M (a.k.a. the AudioExcel
TheaterExcel) and use its optical output to drive everything. Works _very_
well. $21 at newegg.

I see they alsa have a 7.1 version now but if you're just using the optical
output it doesn't matter.
