[mythtv-users] EPG/OSD charset problem

Hello all,

I've been having (since installing Myth) problems with non-US-ASCII
characters in the program titles and descriptions, both in the EPG and the
OSD.

The xmltv grabber, xmltv_grab_fi, generates perfectly valid ISO-8859-1 xml
output (and also declares the character set correctly). However, in
translating that into the database, something happens: namely one extra
byte gets inserted for each multibyte UTF-8 character. Accordingly this
causes mythfrontend to display those characters incorrectly.

For example, the a-diaeresis character, "ä", ISO 8859-1 0xE4, should be
0xC3A4 in UTF-8, but the database appears to have 0xC3C2A4.

Similarly, each o-diaeresis ("ö", 0xF6) should be 0xC3B6 but is 0xC3C2B6.

This appears with the latest CVS version of Myth and Qt 3.3.1,
xmltv-0.5.30, on SuSE 9.0.
