[mythtv-users] Geforce 2 Ultra & MPLAYER (Slightly OT)

Hi all,
I am early on in the process here and have a question about mplayer. I
have setup my backend (no tuner card yet though) and am using a desktop
machine as a prototype frontend prior to running out and getting an XBox
. I have plenty of horsepower (Athlon 2800) but an old GeForce 2 Ultra
graphics card.
My problem is that I can't get Mplayer to play videos. When I start it
up (from mythfontend, or even form the command line), the screen comes
up but shows a blank or frozen frame. If I use the arrow keys to skip
sections, I will usually get a frame from the beginning of the next
section frozen, occasionally it will run on for a few frames and then
stop again.
Xine works impecably so I have enough CPU for the job and mplayer works
reasonably ok on my backend which has newer generic GeForce 2 MX on it
(and this is only a 750Mhz machine). The only important difference
seems to be the graphics card (both boxes are running red hat 9)
So my questions are :
1. Has anybody seen anything similar with mplayer ? Is there a fix ?
2. As an alternative can I use Xine to view videos and DVDs (I suspect
it is possible) - if so, does anyone have a detailed howto as I can't
see anything in the docs.
Thanks !
Regards,
Andrew Cockburn
