Are you absolutely 100% certain that the "nvidia" X driver is being 
loaded and NOT the "nv".  The nv driver WILL cause the TV output to go 
"nuts".

You also might want to make sure that you have APIC support disabled in 
your bios.  That can lead to random lockups and crashes with some chipsets.
