Better quality input signal - the input signal quality is important when 
encoding video - a noisy signal means that more data space is dedicated to 
storing the noise so less is available for storing the actual video, which 
results in even poorer output quality.

In any case, IMHO there is no significant difficulty in getting a digital 
decoder to work with Myth.  Plug the decoder in with Svideo (if 
available..  if not you'll have to make do with composite) and stick an IR 
transmitter on the front, and that's it.
