In many cases, changing the firmware only provides a placebo effect
(but, if that works for you...).

If you look at
http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=FirmwareVersions , you'll
notice that:
     a) in 37 driver releases from Hauppauge, there have only been 5
versions of decoder firmware and 13 versions of encoder firmware, and
     b) the last 9 driver versions released by Hauppauge have contained
identical versions of both decoder AND encoder firmware.
Therefore, unless you get a really old version of the drivers from which
to extract the firmware, you're replacing firmware images with identical
versions.

However, if you really think that the firmware version that Hauppauge
has used for the last nine driver releases is not working and you want
to revert to an older version--which Hauppauge has since updated to fix
known bugs--make sure you at least download one with different encoder
and/or decoder firmware images. :) Oh, and best of luck with the buggy
firmware versions...

Mike
