[mythtv-users] Control MythTV over network (not Mythweb)

Alternatively you could use sendxevent from the lirc contrib directory. I
have played around with it and it seems to work fine. A couple of examples
on how to use it:

/usr/local/bin/sendxevent "Key Return CurrentWindow"
/usr/local/bin/sendxevent "Key Escape CurrentWindow"
