Try: emerge --nodeps bittorrent

Of course, install all the other dependencies first (possibly with
'emerge --oneshot --nodeps ...').

Many packages are overly-aggressive in setting dependencies.

Also, the bittorrent package uses the 'X' USE flag.  If you turn it off,
it will probably skip installing an X client, and would probably
eliminate the graphical dependencies.
