[mythtv-users] Questions @ lirc/homebrew receiver & Jarod's guide

I installed myth on fedora 1 using Jerod's guide. I currently have lirc
running fine on the PVR-350 using the card's included receiver and
remote. However, I want to use my Tivo remotes that I have left over
from my two Series 1 DirecTivo units.

My weekend project is building my homebrew receiver from Radio Shack
parts following the examples on lirc.org and getting my DTivo remotes to
work. However, I am somewhat confused about what changes need to be made
to my setup to get lirc to work with my new homemade receiver and have
the following questions:

Does lirc as installed by the ATrpms work with a homebrew serail
reciever or do I need to "apt-get remove" and install lirc from source?

Do I need to change the lines in /etc/modules.conf to reference a lirc
serial module instead of lirc_ic2 and define the serial port I'm using?

I also assume I will need to define new /etc/lircd.conf and
~/.mythtv/lircrc files for my DirecTivo remotes, as these have different
keys from the lirc Tivo files that are floating around the list.

Thanks for your imput and any other pointers you can give me,
Alan
