[mythtv-users] Accessing mythbackend behind NAT firewall

Hi:
I have been trying to set access to my mythbackend remotely (the
backend is at home behind a firewall). I tried following one suggestion
on the mailing list to set the backend IP and master server IP to the
external public IP address of the firewall. This caused some strange
problems (would be able to get access to the listing of recorded shows
but not actually watch the shows). But even if this worked, this is not
a perfect solution as this is not the configuration I want when I am at
home and want to use a local frontend (without reconfiguring the
backend every time).
So I finally got it working (without having to reconfigure the backend)
but required a little hack in the frontend (added a command line parameter
which is an override IP address for the backend).
Is there an alternate way of getting this working well?
Regards,
Andrew
