[mythtv-users] Myth Transcode Daemon

Hey, all!  Quick question about ripping DVDs.  It's a two part:

1.  For some reason when I'm running mythfrontend normally (as user 
mythtv) I can't rip DVDs.  Appearantly the myth transcode daemon isn't 
running.  But when I run mythfrontend as user root I can rip DVDs just 
fine.  Do I need to setup the transcode daemon (mtd) to run as root from 
startup?

2.  When I choose less than "Perfect" quality on the video nothing 
happens when I try to rip.  Any advice?
