I'd say really only useful for HDTV sets, and then only if you're watching
something that can take advantage of the higher quality connection. SVideo
can handle everything standard-def TV can throw at it. There isn't enough
picture definition for there to be much, if any improvement by feeding
standard-def over a high-def connection. I've got an HDTV, and like JDS's
WEGA, there really isn't much picture difference between feeding it SD
signals over component and SVideo. I get a minor improvement with component,
because I don't have to deal with deinterlacing and reinterlacing, but that
only applies because I'm using a progressive-scan display.

If the TV can't display anything better than standard-def resolution, SVideo
should be capable of feeding the TV as good a signal as it can display.
Perhaps a very nice SDTV will do some fancy stuff with a component signal and
make it look even better, despite still only displaying standard-def in the
end, I dunno.

I'd say don't half-ass it. If you're going to get something with component
inputs, spend a little more and get an HD-capable set. Otherwise, there's
just no real point to it. Save the money.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess its standard def. and s-vid for me.
