If you've successfully compiled a release from sources, there's no
reason you won't be successful with CVS as well. Just keep a set of
previous binaries and a database backup in case of trouble. Watch
the commits list for things like protocol version changes (need to
upgrade all frontends) and database changes (though it's very quick
to back up the database anyway). I tend to upgrade when the list
seems quiet with regard to outstanding problems and when the recent
commits don't mention "breaks xxx temporarily." You get to enjoy
new features/fixes as they come out, and it forces you to keep
your dependencies up to date (though these don't change often).
