Try turning off renderaccel in your XF86config file Also try setting the
NvAGP option. PVR250s usually also require the keep extra audio option
turned on in the playback menu. I also find the smoothest video comes with
the experemental code turned off.

Also as a side note, I have not personally had much luck getting KnoppMyth
to work on my hardware so you might just want to try setting it up on
another distro. Fedora core 1 is a popular alternative.
