I definitely think a weak signal can cause skipping. I have a pvr250
and suffered from some skipping before I realized I was still using an
old cable to connect my Comcast feed into the PVR250. I had just stuck
it in there temporarily because it was all I had at the time. When I
switched out that cable for a brand new one....the skipping vanished!
