[mythtv-users] Sound, no video on MythTV

I am so close to having this thing up and
running, but I am at my wits end (not a long
trip, mind you). I am a total linux n00b.
I have successful test captures. When I do a
mplayer /dev/video0, I get video/sound, no problem.
However, I get sound and no video when I run
mythfrontend. My problem yesterday was the
opposite. Unfortunately, I was not savvy enough
to document what I did. I am thinking there is
an issue with the settings I have for
Mythtvsetup. Can anyone please tell me what the
settings should be? Also, I have some weird
output which I don't know how to decipher.
Please, please, please help.

Thanks,
George

Trying to watch DirectTV instead of my monitor.

When I run
[mythtv at localhost mythtv]$ mythfrontend
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

mythfrontend: cannot connect to X server :0.0

So I su to root, get sound, no video:

[root at localhost mythtv]# mythfrontend,

So then, I test my system with playing live TV
without mythtv which is successful, but there is
a lot of verbiage here:

**** Your system is too SLOW to play
this! ****

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use ALSA 0.5 or the OSS
emulation of ALSA 0.9.
  - Experiment with different values for
-autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a
list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow
CPU! Try -hardframedrop.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni
-forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved
AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/devices.html for tuning/speedup
tips.
If none of this helps you, read
