That's a possibility.  I copied the NUV files elsewhere to play them as a
test and they were nice ad smooth...so I knew the recording itself was
OK...just PlayBack was messed up somewhere....

Although it doesn't sound exactly like your problem, I've been fighting
occasional dropped frames on my setup for quite some time now and I think I
have finally traced it to deleting (multiple) myth files while recording
others.  That appears to load up the hard drive sufficiently to cause ivtv
buffer overruns and results in dropped frames.  I'm still testing to see if
other types of disk activity (eg., ftp'ing files) can cause the same
symptoms.  You might try upping the number of gbuffers you give bttv and see
if that helps the problem, or even if it changes the symptoms.
