[mythtv-users] OT: Sound Hosed

I realize this is not mythtv specific but I know a lot of people here
have experience with this type of issue, so please forgive the OT post..

Last night I did an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.  It updated
ivtv, ALSA and a few other things. After rebooting, I had no sound.
Looking in the logs seems to indicate that ALSA is no longer finding my
sound card, even though /etc/modules.conf was untouched. I tried
switching to Red Hat's native sound (atRTS or something like that) and
it complained that it couldn't find /dev/dsp. I checked and it was
there with the correct permissions. I then tried downgrading ALSA to
pre a 1.0 version but no-go. Any ideas?

Lesson for the day: When something is working don't touch it.
MUST...NOT...TINKER....WHEN....I...DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL I'M DOING...
