Also note the videogen program which you can find from google.  This produces good modelines for me for most resolutions. 

As an aside, for the benefit of us PAL users.  In NTSC land do you generate 60hz modeline, or 59.94Hz?  I'm sure the difference is slight, just trying to avoid any flickering in mplayer and the like
