I've been searching and searching too.  The majority of the info that I
received was from the Tivo Community forum.

I just got the Actisys (from the myth docs) IR Blaster working properly
so
FINALLY I'm changing channels.  I haven't been able to get the serial to
work yet.

but my understanding is that the most difficult step is number one
below:

1.  Verify that your serial port is enabled.
2.  Echo a raw string of codes to ttySx to turn off and on the box (can
be
found in the first post at the above URL).
3.  Test either one of the channel changing scripts in the contrib dir
of
the mythtv source.

I know this leaves out a lot of details, but since I don't have it
working,
I'm not yet ready to write a detailed HOWTO on all the steps for
enabling
and troubleshooting DCT2XXX serial cable channel changing.  There are an
incredible number of people using these boxes and I think it would be
great
if someone (who's gone through all of this already) could compile their
knowledge into a *GOOD and USEFUL* HOWTO with more detail than the few
paragraphs in the Myth docs.

MythTV is pretty much USELESS without channel changing, and it's
completely
stupid that there isn't any more coherent documentation supporting the
DCT2XXX series... or try finding docs on getting the default DISH Dish
Pro
301 (that another few million people have.)

I'm having trouble finding anything but people complaining about their
cable
company not enabling the serial port.
