[mythtv-users] 2 video capture card questions

Currently the only way to record HDTV from a set-top box is by hacking a
box such as the RCA DTC-100. http://www.169time.com will mod DTC-100's
to include a firewire port that is fully unencrypted. I believe current
firewire ports (assuming they are even enabled by your cable company)
will only work with "approved" hardware such as encrypted external
firewire hard drives to expand storage. I am getting a new Motorola
DCT-6208 HDPVR next week that has a firewire port for additional
storage. But there is no way it will be open. Of course someone will
probably hack it, but then the cable company has the ability to download
new firmware to kill it. There is no way to record analog component
outputs because anyone who builds such a card better be ready for a
major headache from everyone in the broadcast industry.
