Thanks for the reply,
I checked my /dev/ directory and did not find a sound subdirectory. I do
have a /dev/snd directory and a /dev/adsp device. When attempting to use
this device with aplay -D /dev/adsp I get the following error message:
ALSA lib pcm.c:1933:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM /dev/adsp0
aplay: main:502: audio open error: No such file or directory
Mplayer also dies with this error message:
Could not open/initialize audio device
Here's the directory listing of adsp which is linked to adsp0:
> ll /dev/adsp0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root audio 14, 12 Jan 4 22:22 /dev/adsp0
Here's the directory listing of dsp which is linked to dsp0 and works for
analog audio output with mplayer, aplay, or mpg123:
> ll /dev/dsp
crw-rw-rw- 1 root audio 14, 3 Jan 4 22:22 /dev/dsp0
I did update my alsa source version to the same one you mention below. Any
other thoughts? Would compiling the mythtv suite with native ALSA support
help get around this problem? I'm not sure if the Debian package is compiled
with this support enabled or not. I mean, mplayer works great sending the
audio to the SPDIF outputs using the -ao alsa9:spdif option.
Thanks,
-Alan
