Can you say "prebuffering pause"

I don't know about 2.6, but kernel 2.4's SBP-2 (Firewire storage) driver has
major performance issues with simultaneous read/write activity.  Transfer rates
go down the tubes and CPU skyrockets.  (My Firewire drive could do a sustained
read at 20 MB/sec with almost no CPU usage, but with simultaneous R/W activity,
average transfer rate dropped to 5 MB/sec at best and the kernel would eat 100%
of my 1.1 GHz Athlon's CPU time.)
