I wouldn't have dreamed this would be this difficult.......thanks for the help
here the info, run from the client: (192.168.2.5 is the nfs server's IP)

rpcinfo -p 192.168.2.5
   program vers proto port
    100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
    100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
    100024 1 udp 32768 status
    100024 1 tcp 32768 status
    100021 1 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100021 3 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100021 4 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100011 1 udp 604 rquotad
    100011 2 udp 604 rquotad
    100011 1 tcp 607 rquotad
    100011 2 tcp 607 rquotad
    100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
    100003 3 udp 2049 nfs
    100005 1 udp 32770 mountd
    100005 1 tcp 32769 mountd

Here's the same info, run from the client again, but this time pointing to the client (192.168.2.10):

rpcinfo -p 192.168.2.10
   program vers proto port
    100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
    100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
    100024 1 udp 32768 status
    100024 1 tcp 32768 status
    100021 1 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100021 3 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100021 4 udp 32769 nlockmgr
    100011 1 udp 863 rquotad
    100011 2 udp 863 rquotad
    100011 1 tcp 866 rquotad
    100011 2 tcp 866 rquotad
    100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
    100003 3 udp 2049 nfs
    100005 1 udp 32770 mountd
    100005 1 tcp 32769 mountd
    100005 2 udp 32770 mountd
    100005 2 tcp 32769 mountd
    100005 3 udp 32770 mountd
    100005 3 tcp 32769 mountd
