Okay, it is clear that something is going wrong when I start up. Here
are the Lirc related /var/log/messages.
---from log file---
Feb 12 22:44:11 myth2 lircd 0.7.0pre1[6850]: lircd(any) ready
Feb 12 22:44:11 myth2 lircd: lircd startup succeeded
Feb 12 22:44:55 myth2 lircd 0.7.0pre1[6850]: accepted new client on
/dev/lircd
Feb 12 22:44:55 myth2 kernel: lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver
registered, at major 61
Feb 12 22:44:55 myth2 lircd 0.7.0pre1[6850]: could not open /dev/lirc
Feb 12 22:44:55 myth2 lircd 0.7.0pre1[6850]: default_init(): No such device
Feb 12 22:44:55 myth2 lircd 0.7.0pre1[6850]: caught signal
---end log file---
I did a search on google, and there were a few pages (mostly discussion
groups based on older version of lirc) where people posted similar error
messages, but I'm afraid I've hit a dead end except that it seems that
the "could not open /dev/lirc" is refering to a file and that lirc
doesn't know which device to use. A search on my working computer
turned up the fact that there is a .lircrc in the home directory
(/home/mythtv) that does not exist on the system that is not working.
Copying the .lircrc file over to the non-working system did not work,
and the lircrc (not .lircrc) file does exist in the .mythtv directory on
both systems.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Alex
