I do, but I'm also running a 16:9 resolution on my set.

Sounds like you're running a 4:3 resolution on the display, in which case, it 
thinks it needs to letterbox the picture to get a 16:9 picture, so you're 
getting stretch from the 4:3 res on a 16:9 display, then further compressing 
the picture.

I run a 960x540p resolution on my TV, then set my recordings to be 16:9 so 
they fill the entire screen. Works quite well, and I just hit the aspect 
ratio button if I ever want to switch over to 4:3 or 16:9 zoom mode (which is 
AWESOME for shows that are broadcast letterboxed in 4:3 -- zooms them out 
perfectly to fit an HDTV).
