No, almost nothing else is running (KDE, etc) apart from things
necessary to make mythtv work (like mysql).

The card is onboard via-c8xxx audio for the via m10k motherboard.  Audio
playback of a mythtv-recorded ring buffer through mplayer results in
sound heard both through the receiver (hooked to the spdif) and to
speakers hooked to line out port.

So.. with audio output clearly working and capture also working, the
issue seems to be with getting mythtv to either pickup the right stream
(for output), or with playing it.
