Look CLOSELY at the error messages. They tell you EXACTLY what you need to
know.

These two lines:
>/video/recordings/ /nfslockfile.lock: No such file or directory
>Be sure that '/video/recordings/ ' exists and that both

See that 'space' character after '/video/recordings/'? That's bad, take it out
of the configs.

Pathnames are picky about being correct. As Homer Simpson might say... "D'oh!"

Subject: [mythtv-users] Cant start mythbackend

Hello,

I'm setting up a new box with Fedora Core 1 and MythTV 0.14, a pvr-250,
and following Jarod's guide. Everything proceeds successfully until I
try to start mythbackend. When I try to start mythbackend it results in
the following:

[root at myth etc]# Starting up as the master server.
2004-02-08 11:27:54 mythbackend version: 0.14.20040123-1 www.mythtv.org
2004-02-08 11:27:54 Enabled verbose msgs : important general
/video/recordings/ /nfslockfile.lock: No such file or directory
Unable to open lockfile!
Be sure that '/video/recordings/ ' exists and that both
the directory and that file are writeble by this user.
 [2]+ Exit 255 mythbackend -v

I've checked permissions on /video and its subdirectories and I've tried
to use different users also... When it tries to start from
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mythbackend it exits immediately and does not clear up
the lock file in /var/lock/subsys or the pid file in /var/run/.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
