Hi Malcolm,

It goes off-screen by design, so the image bleeds to the edge like
regular TV, instead of with black borders like computer monitors.

As far as I know, you're stuck with X itself working like this - I don't
know of any X window manager that restricts the viewport to a specified
area - however, you can restrict mythtv to fit the screen area by
editing the GUI size/offset numbers under the second page of
Setup>Appearance.

Start with the width and height from your XF86Config (the first figures
in the HTimings and VTimings lines, 720 and 480 in your case), and
reduce them by trial and error. You can probably make a guess at how
much is off-screen for the first reduction. For each reduction in size,
add half the amount as offset. When you leave the appearance settings,
mythtv pre-scales the theme images again, and then you can see how far
off you were. When the size is pretty much right, you might need to
tweak the offsets slightly.

For my PAL TV (so my X display is 720x576), I've ended up at 648x544
with offsets of 44 and 17 for x and y respectively. YMMV.

I use kde desktop sharing to access X over VNC, so I'm not too bothered
by the bits I can't quite see at the edges.

Hope this helps,
Nick
