Don't forget that 7200RPM not only improves transfer rate, but it also improves
seek times somewhat (less time to wait for data to spin around and pass the head
after a seek)

Plus 5400 RPM drives often come with slower heads too.

Once you're bouncing between 3-4 locations on disk, raw transfer rate goes down.
 WAY down.
