Oh, I'm sorry, forget the recommendation on using apt. I overlooked
that you are running on x86_64.

Unfortunatly apt will not work on multilib systems (that means systems
that have common i386 and x86_64 versions for the same package). On my
x86_64 system I have removed all doubled i386 packages and use
apt. But this kills openoffice, too.

If you need to keep your system multilib, then currently you need to
go through the yum bugs and workarounds, or you can wait a couple of
days for the smart package manager.
