Try 0.1.9. Worked great for a year. The 0.1.10 series might be good
too. Something changed in the 0.2.0 series, it seems to need more DMA
buffers or something. Anyway when something else needs DMA, like disk
activity, you get problems ranging from dropped frames to lockups.

If you want to stick with 0.2.0, a couple of things you can try is to
edit ivtv/driver/ivtv-driver.h and bump up the size of
IVTV_DEFAULT_MPG_BUFFERS and IVTV_MAX_MPG_BUFFERS. That dropped the
problems to a couple of times a week (from several times a
day). 

Another person suggested using hdparm to change the disks to
udma3 from udma5. That cleared up the problem for him by reducing the
disk's demands for dma.
